Winter Care Tips for Dogs: Keeping Your Pet Warm & Healthy

It’s been a couple of weeks since my last post, and I’ve missed sharing insights with you! Life gets busy, but I’m excited to be back with something timely and helpful, especially as the colder months set in (in the Southern hemisphere where I am located)

Winter brings unique challenges for our dogs, and it’s important to ensure they stay warm, active, and healthy. Whether your pup loves frosty walks or prefers curling up indoors, here’s how to keep them cosy all season long.

1. Limit outdoor exposure – Shorten walks during extreme cold, especially for smaller breeds. Keep them entertain & engaged indoor through toys, scent games, and training exercises. Using dog boots or paw balm as salt and ice commonly found on the ground during winter can be harsh on paw pads.

2Regular brushing – Helps distribute oils and keep their coat healthy in winter.

3. Cosy sleeping spots – Ensure your pup has a warm bed away from draughts. This will keep them warm & comfortable indoors. If you are using centralised heating at home, do consider using a humidifier as the indoor air can dry out their skin.

4. Balanced diet – Dogs burn more energy in winter, so ensure they’re getting the right nutrition. (sometimes a bit of warm water or bone broth can make meals more appealing for them & encourage the volume of their food intake!) An important point is to ensure the availability of fresh water supply as many dogs tend to drink less in colder months.

It feels great to be back after a short blogging break, and I’d love to hear your thoughts! Winter can be magical, but it also means extra care for our furry friends. Let’s keep them warm, happy, and healthy together!
